Dick and Jane, Baby Sally, Spot and Puff and their friends and neighbors helped young students learn to read in first grade classrooms all across the USA from 1930 until the early 1970s. This article traces the rise and fall of the Dick and Jane primary classroom reading series as used in the United States and Canada.
